Common Sense Parenting

Common Sense Parenting®, a nationally recognized program authored by Girls and Boys Town USA, is a parenting class that encourages effective discipline and positive interactions between caregivers and youth. Rainbows staff are certified trainers of the curriculum, and Marion County is only one of two sites in the country conducting these classes. Locally, Rainbows offers the only parenting class taught by parents of youth with mental health needs.

Class participants will learn how to:

• Praise children for positive behavior
• Correct inappropriate behavior and teach positive behavior
• Help youth develop anger management skills
• Establish a stable family life
• Develop a discipline structure without using physical punishment
