Funding in Maryland

Maryland Choices receives funding from the Governor’s Office for Children and DJS through Local Management Boards to serve families with youth at risk of residential treatment center placement, DJS group home diversion and youth not in state custody at risk for out of home placement. Additionally in Montgomery County, Maryland Choices receives dollars to serve youth exhibiting risk factors to intervene early and prevent them from reaching the need for higher level of care.

Use of a nonprofit care management entity (Maryland Choices) have two big advantages.

  • Allows for greater flexibility in the supports provided to youth and their families. This cost avoidance allows for youth to be served more naturally in their own community.
  • Allows for better coordinated and more intensive care management resulting in an increase in the number of youth served in their community.
