Feature Session - What to Expect from Schools When Your Child has Mental Health Concerns
10:30 am
Increasingly, schools are focusing on academic education as their focus of instruction. However, for children with emotional disturbance or mental health disorders, social education and behavioral instruction are at least equally important as their academic programs. In fact, mental health services are a critical part of the development of an IEP. This session will present an overview of the services that must be made available to children who have mental health, behavioral, or emotional problems.
Breakout Session - The IEP and Positive Behavioral Interventions: Strategies for Learning
1:15 pm, repeats at 2:30 pm
Come learn how to develop, behavioral assessments and positive interventions for young people with mental health disorders. The challenge for parents and professionals is to try to understand the interactions between a child and his or her environment so that useful interventions can be developed that lead to lasting behavior change. Participants will leave with an understanding of how the process works, and the steps they can take to initiate a positive behavior intervention plan for a child.
